What we require
Every driver we bring on has to be qualified under the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations before dispatch. Here is what that means in practice.
Valid commercial driver license
A current CDL for the class of vehicle you will operate, valid in your state of residence and not suspended, revoked, or disqualified in any state.
Minimum age
At least 21 years old for interstate freight. Drivers between 18 and 20 may be considered for intrastate work where state law allows.
Current DOT medical certificate
A valid medical examiner certificate from a provider listed on the FMCSA National Registry, kept current for the duration of your time with us.
Acceptable driving record
We review a motor vehicle record from every state where you have held a license in the past three years. Serious violations, a pattern of moving violations, or a recent disqualifying offense will affect eligibility.
Verifiable work history
Three years of employment history, including ten years of commercial driving history if you have held a CDL that long. We contact previous DOT-regulated employers as part of verification.
Drug and alcohol clearance
A negative pre-employment drug screen and a clear query of the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse. Enrollment in our random testing pool is a condition of driving.
Road test or accepted equivalent
A road test administered by us, or a valid certificate of road test or CDL accepted in place of one under federal rules.
Your qualification file
Federal rules require us to keep a driver qualification file for every driver we employ. Once you are hired, we build yours from the following:
- →Your completed driver application for employment
- →Motor vehicle record inquiries and the annual review of your driving record
- →Your annual list of traffic violations
- →Road test certificate, or the CDL accepted in its place
- →Medical examiner certificate and National Registry verification
- →Employment verification responses from prior DOT-regulated employers
- →Pre-employment screening program and Clearinghouse query results
How your information is handled
The application collects your contact and experience details, your home address, and your Social Security number, along with three optional document uploads. The Social Security number is what lets us match you to your own records for the screening every carrier must complete, and it is stored separately from the rest of your application, under stricter access rules. You cannot submit the form without authorizing that screening, and the wording you agreed to is recorded with your application.
Documents that make up your qualification file are collected after an offer, through a secure onboarding process, and are kept confidential and used only for the purposes the safety regulations require.
